Icon Software Applications
Icon's Address Book allows the
user easy access to his/her contacts either by arrowing
through the contacts list or typing the first few
letters of the contact's last name. Users can create
multiple folders for organization. Select and move
ad-dresses among their folders, send email directly from
the Address Book, and can synchronize their contacts
with Micro-soft Outlook) through the Icon
Synchronization program.
Icon's Music Player lets users sort their music files by
song, album, artist, genre, user created play lists, and
by file; and plays .wav, .mp3, and .ogg files as well as
mp3 internet streams. Users may also, in Files Mode,
import files to their media library from various places
on their hard drive, connected USB drives or SD cards,
or from folders shared over a network. Icon, with its
40GB storage capacity, is the only completely
accessible, portable, hard drive based media player on
the market.
Bookshelf
Icon's Bookshelf sorts books by author, book title,
and recently opened content, lists of which are easily
navigable with the arrow keys or by typing the first few
letters of the item you're looking for. Books downloaded
from Bookshare.org, the National Library Service, and
Audible.com(r) are automatically imported and organized
by the Bookshelf when the Book Catalog is updated,
however, users can import .txt, .rtf, .doc, .brf, and
.htm files in to the Bookshelf as well and enter their
title and author information manually.
Newsstand
Icon's Newsstand, in conjunction with Bookshare.org®,
provides access to over 150 periodicals published all
over the nation. After adding periodicals to their
subscription list, users can download daily issues of a
single periodical or all of the periodicals to which
they are subscribed with just a couple of keystrokes.
Users can navigate the full Daisy structure of a
periodical with the Arrow keys and number pad, and can
select and copy articles or issues to documents for
re-search or sharing purposes.
internet Book Search
Icon's Internet Book Search lets a user search the
Bookshare.org ® repository by title, author, or
category. Users may
simply arrow through a list of books and press the OK
key to download, unpack, and organize them in Icon's
Bookshelf.
Web Browser
Icon's Web Browser is one of the most powerful
you'll find in a PDA. It's intuitive command structure
allows a user to navigate a webpage by heading, link,
form field, or text chunk as well as perform a find all
using the number pad. The browser also allows for
multiple active tabs and downloads, has a built in
Google® search tool, and streams mp3 audio.
Icon contains a robust email client that supports pop3
and Secure pop3 email accounts. It also lets users
access their Address Book contacts when sending emails,
and allows them to add senders to the Address Book from
received messages.

Icon's RSS reader captures both news and podcast feeds
and comes with about 20 feeds covering everything from
blindness related podcasts, to financial and sports
news, to recipes and quotes of the day. The RSS
application gives the user complete control over what is
downloaded and when, as well as how feeds are organized.
Users may add feeds through entering a direct URL or by
searching WebPages for available content.
Word Processor
Icon's Word Processor combines the use of several
standard keyboard commands with a marking and selection
structure found in many note takers providing an
intuitive and familiar structure for entering and
manipulating text. Text can be entered using Icon's
keypad to text or Braille, through Icon's Qwerty Docking
Station, or through the use of a USB or Bluetooth
keyboard. Icon will accept both Braille and text in the
same document, and will save documents as .brf, .txt,
.rtf, .doc, and .Idf (LevelStar's own document format).
Icon's planner allows a user intuitive navigation of the
calendar through the Arrow keys, or the ability to jump
to any date by entering it manually. The planner allows
one to set custom alarms for, specify time zones of, and
attach files to any given appointment. It also allows
one to set appointments that repeat daily, weekly,
monthly, or yearly, and synchronizes with Microsoft
Outlook's® Planner through the Icon Synchronization
program.
Voice Recorder
Icon contains a completely accessible digital
recorder which can be used through its internal
microphone or with your favorite stereo microphones.
Users have complete control over quality and recording
levels as well as how recordings are named and stored.
Among its most useful qualities is a vibrating clip
indicator to let users know to adjust the re-cording
level without the need for headphone monitoring.
Calculator
icon's calculator is very natural to use as the
telephone keypad becomes a numeric pad in the calculator
with the arrow keys serving as operational keys. The
calculator also contains 10 memories that can be
recalled easily for entry in to a checkbook or as a part
of a future calculator operation.
Icon's stopwatch is by far the simplest of its programs
as it only uses 3 keys. Select starts and pauses the
running of the stopwatch, OK announces the elapsed time
and running status, and Cancel stops the stopwatch and
returns the counter too.
Icon's journal contains a calendar view much like
the planner's. It allows the user to create journal
entries specifying time, date, subject, mood, and of
course, content that can then serve as one's private
daily diary or be synchronized with a user's Live
Journal.com™
account.
Icon's file Explorer lets you mark files or folders for
copying or moving among folders, drives, and network
folders. You can also perform the typical functions of
creating, deleting, and renaming files or folders as
well as launching the application associated with a
given file by selecting it. In addition, users have
options as to how to sort files and whether or not to
share files or folders with a network.

Icon contains several utilities such as a Network
Manager, Bluetooth Control Panel, Disk Drive Mode,
System Updater, Software Package Installer, Backup
utility, and Report a Problem tool for maintaining and
configuring the unit and connecting it to other devices.
Icon's Utilities Menu also contains a Settings Menu
wherein you can configure speech settings. Sleep Timer
and auto shut off settings, character input settings.
Net-work settings, and several other preferences.
